How I work

Agree what needs to change.
And who will take responsibility.

Interim and fractional leadership, with defined contract and advisory assignments. We agree the business outcome, my responsibility and the decisions needed from your leadership team before the work begins.

The starting point

What does the business
need to be able to do?

That gives us a basis for agreeing the scope, the decisions required and where I should take responsibility.

Interim & fractional leadership

Lead the work through implementation.

Take responsibility for an operating improvement, transformation or recovery mandate, working across the functions and teams involved. That may mean a dedicated interim appointment or sustained leadership on a fractional basis.

Agree the outcome, my authority, the executive sponsor and how performance will be judged.

Defined contract & advisory work

Resolve a specific operating challenge.

A defined assignment can cover delivery of an agreed piece of work or advice on a decision. Examples include testing why a benefit is not coming through, whether an operating-model proposal can be implemented or what a service recovery needs.

Agree the scope, responsibility, evidence needed and who will act on the recommendation.

In practice

What we need to establish.

01

Where is performance being lost?

Start with the business outcome and customer needs. Work with service owners and the people doing the work to examine demand, queues, rework and constraints. Reconcile that with the business case and Finance’s view of the benefit. Separate the evidence from the assumptions.

02

Which decisions will change the result?

Agree the service and operating-model changes, including roles, controls, technology, data and AI. Identify the capacity, supplier and expenditure decisions the outcome depends on. Agree priorities where initiatives need the same people, and who can resolve decisions across functions.

For AI-enabled services, I work with business, technology and risk owners to agree the workflow, decision rights, human oversight, exception handling and fallback arrangements. We establish what evidence a pilot needs to produce before extending its scope or scaling into live operations.

03

Is the improvement holding in the service?

Test the result under normal demand, with the controls and support the service will retain. Check what has changed in cost, capacity and service with the operating owner and Finance. Agree what needs to continue after the mandate ends.

Working together

Clear expectations from the start.

The existing team needs clear responsibilities and access to decisions. My role should strengthen its ability to deliver and leave ownership of the service clear.

Can you work with the team already in place?

Yes. I start with the people who know the operation and the work already under way. We agree where I take responsibility, what the existing team owns and which gaps need addressing.

How would we agree where to start?

Start with the business outcome, the evidence available and the decisions holding progress back. From there, we can agree the scope and whether you need a defined piece of work or someone to lead implementation.

Who owns delivery and the benefits?

We agree my accountability at the outset. Operating owners remain central to implementation, with Finance involved in the benefit baseline and how value will be recognised. The executive sponsor needs to be able to resolve priorities across functions.

Can we discuss relevant experience in more detail?

Yes. I can explain my role, the operating problem and the work involved in more detail, while respecting the confidentiality of the organisations and people concerned.

A first conversation

Tell me what needs
to be different.

Tell me what the business needs to improve, what is already under way and where progress is stuck. I’ll give you a straight view on whether I can help and what responsibility I could take on.

Useful starting points

  1. What does the business need to improve?
  2. What change is already under way?
  3. What responsibility do you need someone to take on?

A 30-minute conversation with Stuart to understand the work and whether there is a fit.
